Mission and Activities

Making Heritage, material and immaterial, an instrument for the development of the Interior, Historicalia NPO carries out the “Castles and Border Fortresses of Alentejo – Raia Viva!” a Project included in the “Portugal Events” program of Turismo de Portugal.

The Event will take place in six historic locations in Alentejo, this year 2024 – Castelo de Vide, Ouguela, Beja, Arronches, Terena and Noudar, on weekends between April and November.

The historical context of the Event will be the two periods in which the Portuguese and Spanish Borderland (called “Raia” in Portuguese and “Raya” in Spanish) was most important area for the History of both countries – in the Portuguese Revolution of 1383-85 and in the Portuguese Independence War of Restoration in 1640 to 1668.

These castles and fortresses fulfilled the role like this with the “Raia / Raya” inhabitants!

We intend to recreate the World of that Time, the passion and dedication as well as to pay homage to the achievements of the Men and Women of yesterday, timeless citizens and motivators of the World of Tomorrow!
